During an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Jessie J revealed the importance of meeting one of her idols and how surreal the whole experience was. JJ dubbed the moment she met Whitney as “probably the most emotional day of my career“. The Domino’s singer has always made it known that Whitney was one of her key influences in her music career and even managed to perform at Houston’s mentor Clive Davis‘s annual pre-Grammy Awards party which is where the two had met for the first time. JJ revealed that it was Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina who actually introduced them to each other.

“She was like, My mum is here and wants to meet you. Whitney was one of my huge inspirations. I’ve always spoken about her. She made [me] proud to have a powerful voice. Theres a lot in the industry that isn’t about vocals and Whitney Houston was all about that – that’s what I’m trying to carry on. I was very proud to be representing the UK on such a kind of memorable night. Whitney Houston is someone that will never be forgotten and her music will live on forever.”

Jessie J attended last nights Brit Awards Ceremony where she was nominated for three awards, including British Female Solo Artist. In addition to attending these prestigious events, JJ is also currently working on New BBC reality show The Voice as a mentor along with fellow coaches Will.I.Am, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue.
