Grammy Award winning singer Tony Bennet has called for the legalisation of drugs following the death of another of the worlds greatest singers.
Bennet explained at Clive Davis‘ annual pre-Grammy party that he felt there is a need to legalise drugs so that users don’t have a need to hide their addictions. Following Whitney Houston‘s death hours before the Grammys took place, Bennet discussed the recent death’s of some of the worlds greatest artists and how he would like people to fight for the legalisation of specific substances.
“First it was Michael Jackson, then there was Amy Winehouse, and now the magnificent Whitney Houston. I’d like to have every gentleman and lady in this room commit themselves to get on government to legalise drugs. Lets legalise drugs like they did in Amsterdam. No one’s hiding or sneaking around corners to get it. They go to a doctor to get it [not] gangsters that just sell it under the table.“
Bennet was adamant that it was intact the law’s in place to stop drug consumption that took the life of the late Whitney Houston and not the people selling them.
“Get rid of all the gangsters that make people hide. Once it’s legal and everybody can do it, there is no longer the desire to do something that nobody else can do…You’re always afraid you’re going to get arrested. You have to hide. Why do that?”
In certain circumstances, Tony Bennett makes a compelling argument for the legalisation of drugs in America with the death of Amy Winehouse being a result of alcohol poisoning and MJ by the effects of a legalised substance administered by his doctor.
